The Wonders of Alisan

Day 4 – July 10th 2012
and Day 5 – July 11th, 2012

We were very blessed indeed to be able to experience all the five wonders of Alishan – sunrise, sunset, sea of clouds, mountain train and forest trails. As the saying goes, ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’, so I’ll let the following photos tell the story of our short, but memorable, stay at Alishan Forest Recreation Area.

  2. Hi. Can I check what is the link for u to book Xin Xin minsu? I was searching through the net but can’t manage to find the right link to book. Thanks!

  3. Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for sharing your Taiwan trip with us.
Those pics taken in Alishan are wonderful!
May I know how long do you need to walk to the sunrise or sunset place from the entrance?
Also the Sunmoon lake, is it a nice place to visit? or maybe there is another better lake to visit than this Sunmoon lake.
    Thanks.

    • Hey Martini,

To watch the sunrise, we took the early morning train to ZhuShan…. You can find out about the departure time from the minsu owner/hotel counter…. It took us around 1 hour to travel from the train station to the viewing platform (if I’m not mistaken)…. As for sunset viewing, you can easily walk to the train station….

There are a few attractions at Sun Moon Lake – Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village themepark, cable car ride, cruise around the lake, peacock garden, Ita Thao, etc. We didn’t stay long at Sun Moon Lake though… in fact we only dropped by for a few hours (skipped the theme park and we also didn’t take the cruise/cable car ride).. It’s worth a visit though. Not sure about another lake… SML was the only one we visited. =)

      Hope that helps.

      Cheers,
      Cheryl

  4. Dear Cheryl,
I want to go to Alishan.
Where is the best place to take sea of clouds view?

    • Hi Frans, I missed your comment and hence the late reply. I’m so sorry.
We took the “sea of clouds” pictures from the railway track…. from the main station, follow the railway track (heading towards the main entrance) until you reach the end…. hope that helps.

      Cheers,
      Cheryl

  5. Thanks for your detailed blog! So helpful! Did you take the train to see the sunset as well? And did you have to get your tickets in advance or just the day of? Do you recall if people can ride the train during the day, other than for sunrise and sunset? My kids love trains. Thank you!
