Diary of a SAHM – Day 416
Since we are living away from our family, Joshayne doesn’t get to spend much time with his grandparents, uncles and aunties, and cousins. Thus, for his 2nd birthday, we decided to fly back to our hometown so that he could celebrate this milestone with the extended family.
For logistical reasons and convenience, we organised two celebrations; one on Sunday with family members on my side and another one with Kiate’s relatives the following day. For my family, we ordered one Signature Variety Deal, one Signature Pair Deals Large and one Big Variety Box from Pizza Hut. For the latter, we had a buffet style dinner with food ordered from Fook Xin Restaurant. My MIL and I also prepared ka-cham-mah and “red eggs” for the occasion. In addition, Kiate’s 小姑 (aunty) helped to prepare several vegetarian dishes.
For JD’s first birthday, we simply bought a ready made icing cake from a local bakery. This time round, we were determined to put in more effort to get him a proper birthday cake. We went to two cake houses but we were disappointed with what they had to offer. As we flipped through the catalogues, none of the designs (mostly cartoon characters) attracted JD’s attention. Furthermore, the cakes were ridiculously priced (in our opinion). Anyway, we weren’t ready to fork out RM200 for a cake which didn’t even impress us.
In the end, we decided to order Secret Recipe cakes (White Chocolate Macadamia and Blueberry Cheese at RM90 each). We personalised the cakes by decorating them with tiny toy cars, trucks etc. as JD’s really into vehicles at the moment. When we brought the cake out, JD and his cousins were instantly attracted by the “deco.” The toy vehicles kept them entertained for the rest of the evening. I was really happy with the outcome and so was JD – his toy collection has grown!
